Thoothukudi: The drinking water project
at Vadakkusilukkanpatti village supported by Sterlite Copper has been
successfully completed and was handed over to the community recently. In the
handing over function, Mr. A.Devaraj, Executive Engineer, TWAD Board dedicated
the project to the community in the presence of Mr.D.Dhanavel, Head – Projects,
Sterlite Copper.
The
project included construction of two borewells, commissioning of eight syntax
water tanks with 1000 litres capacity and laying of water pipeline covering
2200 meters. Sterlite sponsored the project based on the request from the
villagers as there is an acute shortage of water in the village.
The
project was implemented by District Rural Development Agency under ‘Self
Sufficiency Scheme’. The cost for this project was Rs 8.1 lakh out of which Rs
2.7 lakh was contributed by Sterlite Copper as people’s contribution. It will
benefit 320 families residing in the village to get adequate water facilities.
Sterlite
Copper has adopted Vadakkusilukkanpatti village as a model village and has been
carrying out various community welfare initiatives at the village like
infrastructure development works at school and community hall, renovation of
public toilets, providing underground water storage sumps, dust bins, running
of evening study centre and rural health clinic.
