Sterlite Copper bags Quality and Team Performance awards

Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has bagged awards in CCQC (Chapter Convention for Quality Circles) State level competition organised by QCFI (Quality Circle Forum of India) at Madurai recently.

Sterlite won three gold and three silver awards for presentations on Elimination of Belt Cuts in ISA feeding system by installation of magnetic separator in Primary Smelter, Reduction of bleed consumption from 12.63 M³ to 4.2 M³, Reduction of water soluble P₂O₅ in hemi & di hydrate cake in Phosphoric Acid Plant, Continuous operation of Xray Fluorescence  by provision of Stainless Steel ring in Smelter lab, Elimination of fuel oil consumption in ISA Primary and Increasing the Sulphuric Acid loading rate from 89 M³/hr to 120 M³/hr with improved safety in Sulphuric Acid Plant under special case study category.

                                                                                           

The company has also bagged first place in Skit and Poem competitions in the same event. The participants from Sterlite under each category received the awards from Dr.D.K.Srivastava, Executive Director, QCFI. 180 teams across various industries representing 80 organizations participated in the event which was witnessed by thousands of employees.

Qimpro Prize 2012. Sterlite also received the finalist award in the Qimpro Prize 2012, a convention organised at Mumbai to recognize excellence in team performance. 85 projects were validated under Process Improvement, Innovation and Green categories. Sterlite’s project was one of the 10 projects qualified under Process Improvement Category.  Mr.Suresh Lulla, Founder and Managing Director, Qimpro Consultants presented the award to Mr.S.Annamalai, Associate Manager, Precious Metals Business, Sterlite Copper.

Sterlite Copper celebrates National Safety Month

Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper concluded its a month long safety celebrations by organising a valedictory function at Tamira Niketan in Sterlite premises here on Saturday.

Mr.K.Ayyanu, Director of Industrial Safety & Health, Government of Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest for the programme while Mr.P.Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer, Sterlite Copper presided the function. Mr S. Ismail, Additional Director of Industrial Safety & Health, Madurai and Mr NR Sadhanandham, Joint Director of Industrial Safety & Health were the guests of honour.

Mr.Sandeep K.Acharya, Head – Safety, Sterlite Copper read out the safety annual report during the occasion. He also listed the various measures adopted by the company to improve the safety standards.

Mr.K.Ayyanu lauded the efforts taken by Sterlite Copper to improve safety to become zero incident industry. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.P.Ramnath said, “Safety is our priority in the operations. We have taken various measures to improve safety in our industry”.

The month-long safety celebrations at Sterlite Copper included various competitions like slogan competition, poster making competition, quiz competition, fancy dress competition and spot the hazard competition for the employees, contract workforce and their family members. “Sterlite Copper has encouraged a culture of safety in its organization. The purpose of including the families in the safety celebrations was to inculcate safety not only in the work place but also in everyday life,” said Ms.A.Sumathi, Head – Health, Safety and Environment, Sterlite Copper.

Mr K.Ayyanu, Director of Industrial Safety & Health, Tamilnadu and Mr S. Ismail, Additional Director of Industrial Safety & Health, Madurai distributed the prizes to the winners of the contests. Cultural programmes were also part of the event.

Mr.R.Muralikrishnan, Associate General Manager – Health, Safety, Environment and Dr.R.Kailasam, Chief Medical Officer, Sterlite Copper were also present during the event.

Sterlite Copper celebrates International Women’s day

Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper observed International women’s day at Alagar Mahal here on Friday.

Mr.M.Sakthivel, General Manager – Human Resources, Sterlite Copper was the Chief Guest of the programme and presented the awards for 18 best women entrepreneurs. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of various sports events organised by Sterlite recently.

Cultural events were also part of the event and around 1500 members of Sterlite Self Help Groups (SHGs) participated in the event.

“The current financial year was given focus for initiating new income generation activities for the existing women groups. As on date, 220 families were covered during the current financial year in partnership with 4 NGOs. Plastic recycling, sanitary napkin, paper cup and mushroom cultivation units were few entrepreneurship projects initiated during this current year,” said Mr.M.Sakthivel. He also added that Sterlite Copper has started Ilam Mottukal project at a cost of Rs 1.4 crore to improve girl child education in the district.

Sterlite Women Empowerment Project (SWEP) was conceived to help rural and coastal women become self confident and economically independent. It aims to promote family savings among self help groups (SHGs), which also allows them to take up projects that generate additional income for their families. Sterlite Copper ranked as 4th Best Employer of the Year 2012-13 by World HRD Congress

Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has been ranked the 4^th Best employer of the year 2012-13 among the top ten companies in India during the annual event organised by the World HRD Congress recently at Mumbai.
