STERLITE COPPER CONDUCTS FREE EYE CAMP


TUTICORIN: Sterlite Copper organized a free eye camp at North Aathoor here on Sunday.               

As part of Sterlite’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the field of health, various health and eye camps are being conducted in different parts of the district regularly. An eye camp was organized in association with Aravind Eye hospital, Tirunelveli at Shanmugasundara Nadar High School, North Aathoor.

Around 175 people were benefitted from the camp and the participants were screened by a team of Aravind hospital doctors comprising Dr.Adarsh and Dr.Naronil.

During the camp, tests on various defects like myopia, hypermetropia, presbyopia, eye pressure, colour blindness were carried out on the participants and 34 people were referred for cataract surgery at Aravind Eye hospital, Tirunelveli.

Sterlite conducts mock drill


Tuticorin :Sterlite Copper conducted an emergency response mock drill in the premises of the plant on Thursday.

Sterlite conducts mock drill exercise twice a year to ascertain the preparedness in case of any emergency in the plant. A mock drill on fire fighting and rescue operations was held in which all the emergency coordinators and team members actively participated. They demonstrated their role in the fire fighting and rescue operations.

Mr. N R Sadhanandam, Deputy Chief Inspectorate of Factories, Tuticorin who witnessed the mock drill lauded all the team members and management for their efforts and expressed satisfaction on the emergency response procedures of the plant.

Mr.VinodWagh, General Manager – Engineering Service, Sterlite Copper said that the main objective of the mock drill is to ensure the preparedness for any emergency and working of the fire fighting systems so as to give assurance of safety to the public.  He also added that the plant is equipped with modern fire fighting facilities and alarm systems to manage any on-site emergencies.

Sterlite Copper has assisted the district administration on numerous fire fighting occasions and has been appreciated by the government officials and public.

Mr. P Divakaran, General Manager, Operations, Mr.SandeepAcharya, Manager, Fire & Safety and Dr.R.Kailasam, Chief Medical Officer, Sterlite Copper were among the officials present.

Sterlite Copper bags CII Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Award


Tuticorin: Sterlite Copper has bagged Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Award during the 13th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre.

Mr.Pradeep Nair, Head – Electrical and Ms. Parama Kalyani, Associate Manger – Energy and Water, Sterlite Copper received the award from Mr.Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency in a function organised at Hyderabad.

The award was in recognition to the company’s excellence in reduction of specific energy consumption, its proximity towards global best in specific energy consumption, innovation in identifying and implementing energy saving projects, saving achieved, methodology adopted during the implementation, proven efforts taken by the company to sustain the savings and utilization of waste materials.

CII – Godrej GBC organized the “National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2012” to recognize and Award “Excellence” in Energy Management among the Industrial Sector and facilitate sharing of information on Best practices & technologies. Energy Award is the best platform for the organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the area of energy efficiency to showcase their efforts and achievements.

Sterlite Copper bags FICCI Water Award


Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper has bagged the prestigious Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Water Award under Industrial Water Efficiency category.

Mr.Sanjay Karn, Head – Corporate Affairs, Sterlite Copper received the award from Mrs.Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister, National Capital Territory of Delhi and Mr.Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Government of India  in a function organised at New Delhi.

The award was in recognition to the company’s excellence in reduction of specific water consumption, waste water treatment system, zero discharge and awareness on water conservation among employees.

FICCI in association with the HSBC launched the annual Water Awards with the aim of recognising efforts and leadership in the area of water efficiency and conservation and developing a knowledge base on sustainable water management practices adopted by different stakeholders and disseminate best practices for encouraging their adoption.

The entries for the Water Awards depict the wide range of initiatives Indian companies are taking to conserve water resources. Initiatives adopted range from rainwater harvesting; wastewater treatment; water audits and technology modification for reduction in freshwater consumption and reuse of wastewater. Sterlite Copper applied for the award and was shortlisted for the presentation. The presentation was made by Ms.Paramakalyani, Associate Manager on behalf of Sterlite Copper.

The final presentation included trends of specific water consumption, benchmarking details and gap analysis, waste water treatment system and zero discharge, monitoring and reporting system, creating awareness and water conservation and anti-pollution drives against water pollution.

Sterlite organizes blood donation camp


Tuticorin : Sterlite Copper in association with Thoothukudi District Blood Bank organized a one day blood donation camp at Thoothukudi Government hospital campus here on Thursday.

The event was conducted by Sterlite Red Ribbon Club, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the company to create awareness on the importance of blood donation in the present scenario.

Mr.K.Pankaj, Associate Vice President, Sterlite Copper inaugurated the camp which received a good response among the Sterlite employees as 45 of them turned up for the event. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to all the donors.

Sterlite Copper launches ‘Ilam Mottukal’ Project To support the education of 5000 girl children


Chennai: Sterlite Copper in partnership with K.C.Mahindra Education Trust and Naandi Foundation launched the ‘Ilam Mottukal’ Project in a function held at Auxilium Higher Secondary School here on Monday.

A Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged by Mr. Suresh Bose, Head – Human Relations, Sterlite Copper and Dr. Preetha Bhakta, Head – Education Research & Learning Initiatives, Naandi Foundation in the presence of Mr.A.Mohammed Aslam IAS, State Project Director, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Tamil Nadu marking the launch of the project.

Ilam Mottukal Project is one of Sterlite’s initiatives to improve the quality of lives of the community around them. For this project, Sterlite Copper will support the education of 5000 girl children from 72 Government schools.

“Realising that girls are marginalised in the society, we felt the need to provide girl children with a good and healthy childhood. Through this project, we seek to provide girls with the opportunity to study and grow to achieve independence in thought and action. Our project ‘Ilam Mottukal’ will help in the holistic development of these girls,” said Mr. Suresh Bose, Head-HR, Sterlite Copper.

Additional academic support, material support, social and moral support are the key components in the programme. Academic special classes will be conducted for 1.5 hours beyond school time which will help to bridge the learning gaps and enable children to reach their grade specific competency level in school. The classes will be conducted by 160 trained tutors selected within the community with the vision that they would be the local resource to act as friends and mentors to the children.

Education kit comprising school bag, undergarments, shoes, socks, stationery, notebooks, umbrella, etc will be handed over to all the beneficiaries at the earliest. Sterlite has allotted Rs 1.4 crore for this initiative.
